Bernburg Trumpeter
The Bernburg trumpeter, or Bernburger trumpeter, is a German domestic pigeon breed named for Bernburg in Saxony-Anhalt. It belongs to the trumpeter group, pigeons selected for a resonant, rolling call as well as visible type. Although less familiar internationally than the Bokhara or German double-crested trumpeter, it carries the identity of a regional German breed, with fanciers judging body balance, head and feather details, color, and the quality of the voice.
Trumpeter pigeons are best appreciated in a calm loft where their calling can be heard and pairs are not crowded into constant disturbance. The standard used by a club should guide selection, especially if a line has ornamental cresting or foot feather that needs dry floors and careful nest hygiene. Because Bernburg trumpeters are uncommon outside specialist collections, preservation depends on exchanging unrelated stock, recording pairings, and keeping birds that breed soundly as well as look correct.
