Berne Ribbon-Tail
The Berne ribbon-tail is a Bernese fancy pigeon named for the tail marking that sets it apart within the Swiss color pigeon family. In English lists the wording may be used for a breed whose standard calls attention to a defined ribbon, band, or mirror effect in the tail rather than to racing performance. It is a clean-legged domestic pigeon of rock pigeon ancestry, generally compact and active, with the usual exhibition demands for even feather, balanced carriage, clear eyes, and color that matches the written standard.
For keepers, the tail is both the attraction and the trouble spot. Broken tail feathers, staining, or poor marking boundaries can make an otherwise sound bird hard to show, so perches, nest bowls, and bath routines should keep the tail clean and unfrayed. Breeding decisions are made after the molt, when tail pattern can be seen accurately. Because this is a regional variety, buyers should ask for photos of the parents and the standard followed by the loft, especially when importing or comparing translated names.
