Berne White-Tail
The Berne white-tail is one of the Bernese Swiss color pigeons, recognized by a colored body pattern combined with a white tail as required by the standard. It is a domestic pigeon, Columba livia, shaped by exhibition breeding rather than by homing or utility selection. The best birds show a tidy medium-small type, smooth legs, close feathering, and a sharp division between the white tail and the surrounding color. Related Bernese breeds can look similar at a glance, so the tail and rump markings are important identifiers.
White-tailed varieties reward patient loft management because the main feature is easy to stain or damage. Clean floors, well-spaced perches, and nest material that does not cling to feathers help keep the tail presentable. In breeding, fanciers look for young that combine the required white tail with strong color elsewhere; too much white spreading into the body or colored feathers in the tail may be a fault. These pigeons are usually kept in show lofts or heritage breed collections, where local standards guide pairings.
