Blue Tumbler of Cluj
The blue tumbler of Cluj is a Romanian or Transylvanian tumbler pigeon associated with Cluj-Napoca, historically known in Hungarian as Kolozsvar. It is a domestic pigeon, Columba livia, selected around a regional blue type and the lively behavior expected of tumblers. The breed is far less common in English-language lofts than Birmingham rollers or major German tumblers, so names and judging priorities may vary between Romanian, Hungarian, and international sources. Blue plumage with bars or checks is central to its identity, although related color modifiers may be encountered in local collections.
In practical terms, this is a small-loft and specialist-breeder bird. Keepers value sound orientation, active flight, and the ability to reproduce the correct local type alongside the blue color. Youngsters benefit from gradual trapping and loft training before any demanding flying is expected. For conservation-minded breeders, avoiding close inbreeding and exchanging stock responsibly may matter as much as winning show points, because rare regional pigeon breeds can disappear quietly when only a few lofts keep them.
