Bohemian Fairy Swallow
The Bohemian Fairy Swallow is an ornamental color pigeon from the Czech and Bohemian fancy, despite a name that can be mistaken for a wild swallow. It is a domestic pigeon, Columba livia, bred for a swallow-style pattern: a light or white body set off by colored wing areas and head markings, often with refined feathering and carefully defined edges. The fairy name is used in the pigeon fancy for a delicate, decorative appearance rather than for behavior. Depending on the standard, birds may be seen in several color bases and modifiers, but clean pattern placement is more important than simply producing a rare color.
These pigeons are kept primarily for exhibition and preservation of a regional type. Dry litter, smooth perches, and uncrowded breeding pens help protect foot and wing feathers, especially in lines with heavier feathering. Pair selection usually aims to sharpen markings while keeping good body condition, fertility, and reliable parenting. Because swallow-pattern breeds from Central Europe can look similar to newcomers, buyers should ask which standard the bird is bred to and compare cap, wing, and body markings before adding it to a breeding loft.
