Bursa Tumbler
The Bursa tumbler is a Turkish pigeon breed from the Bursa region of northwestern Anatolia, long kept as a flying and performance bird. It is part of the domestic rock pigeon, Columba livia, but has been selected for an agile build and the ability to tumble or roll during flight. Traditional Bursa birds are typically neat, tight-feathered, and athletic rather than bulky; color and marking preferences vary by strain and club. The breed is often discussed with Turkish rollers and Oriental tumblers, although serious fanciers distinguish the local Bursa style of flight and type.
A Bursa tumbler is best evaluated in the air. Keepers train young birds gradually from a secure home loft, using regular feeding times so the kit traps promptly after flying. Too much weight, rough handling, or forcing birds through heavy molt can dull performance. Breeding choices usually favor proven families that combine safe rolling, orientation, and reliable parenting. In areas where the breed is rare, it is wise to confirm whether stock comes from a performance line, an exhibition line, or mixed backyard birds carrying the Bursa name.
