Canario Cropper
The Canario cropper, or buchón canario, is a Spanish pouter and cropper pigeon from the Canary Islands. Like other cropper breeds, it carries an enlarged inflatable crop used in display; the bird courts with a proud stance, arched neck, and animated movement. It descends from domestic rock pigeons and reflects the island tradition of flying and display pigeons, where temperament and carriage matter as much as color. It is usually discussed with the Spanish buchón breeds rather than with racers or tumblers.
Keeping Canario croppers is different from managing a tight kit of rollers. They need room to strut and fly without damaging the inflated crop, perches that do not crowd the chest, and careful handling during shows. Breeders select for a crop that inflates well but does not interfere with feeding, breathing, or parenting. In regions where Spanish pouter traditions are practiced, buyers may ask about courtship behavior and family style as well as written show points.
