Cauchois
The Cauchois is a large French domestic pigeon from the Pays de Caux area of Normandy, developed as a utility and fancy bird. It is broad and solid, with a smooth head, clean legs, full breast, and calm carriage rather than a performance style. Show birds are valued for rich ground colors and marked wings, often with bars, checks, spangles, or lacing; blue, black, red, yellow, and related dilutes may appear depending on the standard.
Because of its size, the Cauchois benefits from roomy nest boxes, stable perches, and a loft kept dry enough to protect feather quality. Pairs can be reliable parents and may raise good squabs, reflecting the breed's farm-pigeon background. Exhibition breeders also watch body substance, wing pattern, and even color. Anyone acquiring stock should compare the birds with the relevant French or national standard, as color names and markings matter more here than in many generic utility pigeons.
