Clean-Legged Full-Head Swallow Pigeon
The clean-legged full-head swallow pigeon is a color and marking breed of domestic rock pigeon ancestry, belonging to the swallow family of fancy pigeons rather than to the wild swallow bird. Swallow pigeons are recognized by a mostly white body contrasted with colored wing shields and head markings. In the full-head form, the head is colored more extensively, while clean-legged separates it from muffed Saxon and related swallow varieties that carry long foot feathering. Color names may include blue, black, red, yellow, ash red, brown, dilute, grizzle, and other pigeon patterns.
These pigeons are kept mainly for exhibition and small-loft breeding, where crisp markings and clean feather condition matter. The lack of heavy muffs makes daily care simpler than in foot-feathered swallows, but white plumage still shows dirt quickly, so dry floors and clean bath water are useful. Breeders pair birds to improve symmetry of the head color, wing shield, bars or checks, and body type. Buyers should confirm the exact standard used, since swallow varieties are divided differently across European and national pigeon clubs.
