Cluj-Napoca Roller
The Cluj-Napoca roller is a Romanian domestic pigeon associated with the Transylvanian city of Cluj-Napoca. It belongs to the roller and tumbler side of Columba livia, where birds are judged both for local type and for the inherited ability to roll backward in flight. Fanciers generally look for a compact, active pigeon with balanced carriage, tidy feathering, and enough strength to return readily to the loft after kit work. As with many regional performance pigeons, color can vary widely, including blue, black, ash red, brown, grizzle, almond, and barred or checker patterns.
Management is closest to other flying rollers: young birds are settled carefully, flown in small groups, and fed so they are keen without being weakened. A dry loft with steady routines matters more than ornament. Breeding pairs are usually chosen for safe performance, homing sense, and sound parenting, since overly frequent or low rolling can injure birds. Buyers outside Romania may need to confirm the exact club standard, because names and performance expectations can differ among local strains.
