Crested Soultz
The crested Soultz is an Alsatian or French regional fancy pigeon, named for Soultz and distinguished from related Soultz-type birds by its crest. Like other domestic pigeons, it belongs to Columba livia, but its value lies in local breed character rather than racing speed or long-distance homing. Fanciers generally look for a sturdy, well-balanced bird with a neat crest, good feather quality, and markings that match the standard used in their region. The breed name may appear in translated lists, so spelling and classification can differ among pigeon associations.
Keeping crested Soultz pigeons is mainly conventional fancy-pigeon husbandry. They need a clean, dry loft with enough room for courtship and nesting, and crested birds benefit from regular checks around the head after wet weather or molt. Breeding decisions focus on maintaining the crest without sacrificing fertility, parental care, or a sound frame. For buyers, the practical question is whether the birds come from a recognized show line, a local preservation loft, or a mixed group using the name loosely; that difference affects both expectations and price.
