Donek
The Donek is a performance pigeon breed from the Balkans, especially associated with dramatic diving and rolling flight. It is sometimes grouped with diving rollers rather than ordinary tumblers, because experienced birds may climb, tip, spin, or dive in a controlled display before returning to the loft. Color and markings can vary, but the bird's meaning is rooted in flight style.
Doneks need knowledgeable training and careful selection. Young birds should be settled slowly, flown in safe weather, and protected from predators, since high-action performance can increase risk. Breeders should choose birds that show style without losing control, return reliably, and remain physically sound. A Donek that only looks correct in the loft has not proven its main value. Buyers should try to see family members perform before building a breeding group.
