Dutch Highflyer
The Dutch Highflyer is a Dutch performance pigeon selected for sustained flight and loyalty to its home loft. It belongs to the highflyer group rather than the short-burst roller or tumbler group, so endurance, height, and steady circling are more important than dramatic aerial tricks. Some lines may also be maintained to a show standard, depending on the fancier community.
Care should support athletic condition without pushing birds too hard. Young Dutch Highflyers need gradual settling, consistent feeding, and training in good weather. Breeders should keep birds that fly strongly, return reliably, and recover well after work. Clean lofts, grit, parasite control, and proper rest are basic. Since the name overlaps with spelling variants, records should identify the strain and whether it is bred for performance, exhibition, or both.
