Egyptian Tumbler
The Egyptian tumbler is a domestic pigeon breed from the tumbler tradition of Egypt and the eastern Mediterranean, where small, agile pigeons were valued for aerial action as well as appearance. Like all domestic tumblers it traces back to Columba livia, but selection has favored a compact, lively bird capable in some strains of backward somersaults or rolling movements during flight. Exhibition birds are judged on type, markings, head, and carriage, and not every modern family performs strongly in the air.
A practical keeper should know whether the birds being purchased are flying tumblers, show birds, or a mixture of both. Young flying birds are usually trained gradually, released in familiar surroundings, and watched for excessive rolling that could put them at risk. Show families can be housed much like other fancy pigeons, with simple nest bowls, mineral grit, and a grain mix suited to moderate activity. Pair selection balances clean markings and body type with steady parenting and general hardiness.
