Elbing White-Head Tumbler
Named for Elbing, the historic German name of today's Elbląg in northern Poland, the Elbing white-head tumbler is a regional domestic pigeon from the Baltic and Prussian tumbler tradition. It is a Columba livia breed selected for a colored body set off by a clean white head, along with the compact shape, alert carriage, and lively temperament associated with tumblers. Older flying families may have shown tumbling or quick aerial play, while many present-day birds are maintained for exhibition markings and type.
The main breeding challenge is the boundary between the white head and colored plumage, since small mismarks can separate a show-quality bird from a useful but non-show breeder. Fanciers also watch body balance, wing carriage, and vigor so the pattern is not preserved at the expense of health. Housing is ordinary pigeon loft management: dry perches, secure nest sites, and room for exercise. Anyone buying this breed should confirm the expected markings under the relevant European or local standard.
