Elster Purzler
Elster Purzler, often translated as magpie tumbler, is a German-named domestic pigeon variety combining tumbler type with the Elster or magpie marking pattern. It belongs to the broad family of Columba livia breeds developed in European towns and lofts for flight play, controlled color placement, and compact shape. The bird is not defined by a single color alone; the important feature is the patterned contrast and the proportionate tumbler outline that lets the markings read cleanly on the body.
Some lines are kept mainly for exhibition, while others may retain more of the quick, agile flight associated with tumblers. Buyers should ask how the family has been bred before expecting aerial performance. Routine care is uncomplicated for an experienced pigeon keeper: secure lofting, regular exercise, nest bowls, and a consistent grain ration are enough for most birds. Breeding requires patience because clean magpie markings can be difficult to reproduce, especially when a small local population limits the choice of unrelated mates.
