English Fantail
The English Fantail is an ornamental pigeon breed shaped around a raised, fan-shaped tail and an upright, controlled carriage. It belongs to the wider fantail family but is judged separately from Indian Fantails and other related types, with differences in body shape, stance, feather count, and how the bird carries itself in the pen. The tail is the main visual feature, but a good English Fantail should still look balanced rather than collapsed behind its own feathering.
Keeping this breed well means protecting the tail as much as feeding the bird. Lofts need clean floors, wide perches, bathing water, and enough space to prevent feather breakage. Breeders select for tail spread, body control, fertility, and normal movement, because showy feathering has little value if the bird cannot mate, perch, or walk comfortably. Buyers should watch an English Fantail moving as well as posed, since steadiness reveals much about practical quality.
