English Pouter
The English Pouter is a tall British fancy pigeon from the pouter and cropper family, bred for long legs, an upright posture, a narrow body, and a large inflated crop or globe. It has influenced several related pouter breeds, but its own type depends on height, carriage, globe shape, and a clean body line working together. During display, the bird should look controlled, not strained or unstable.
English Pouters need roomy lofts, secure perches, and flooring that protects long legs and feather condition. Breeders should watch for mating difficulty, crop imbalance, weak legs, and birds that cannot move naturally, since extreme proportions can create practical problems. Calm handling helps birds display without panic. Selection should reward height, globe, body line, fertility, sound parenting, and healthy movement together. Young birds also need time to grow into their frame before heavy show expectations are placed on them. A dramatic stance matters only if the bird can live and breed comfortably.
