Field Pigeon
Field Pigeon is a broad term that can describe utility pigeons kept around farms, field-type fancy breeds, or pigeons with a plain working body rather than a highly specialized show form. It should not be assumed to mean one closed breed unless a standard or source flock is named. The label often points to practical pigeons valued for hardiness, breeding, and ordinary loft usefulness.
For owners, the first task is to identify what the birds are expected to do. Some field pigeons may be kept for squab, some for color or local heritage, and some simply as mixed farm loft birds. Care should focus on dry housing, predator protection, clean feed, grit, water, and healthy breeding cycles. Records of source, body size, color, productivity, and temperament make the label more useful than a vague name alone.
