Franconian Bagdad
The Franconian Bagdad is a German wattle or Bagdad-type pigeon from Franconia, the northern Bavarian region with many local fancy breeds. It descends from domestic rock pigeons but is judged for a strong head, firm beak, alert station, and the eye and cere character associated with carrier-style exhibition pigeons. It should not be confused with modern racing homers or with Middle Eastern pigeons named only by geography.
In the loft, Franconian Bagdads need ordinary clean-legged pigeon management: dry ventilation, secure nest boxes, grit, bathing water, and measured feed that keeps them fit without soft condition. Breeders select for head quality while avoiding coarse tissue, weak fertility, or poor squab feeding. Because this is a regional breed, stock should be compared with the standard used by the breeder's club rather than bought on the Bagdad name alone.
