Franconian Magpie Pigeon
The Franconian magpie pigeon is a German fancy pigeon recognized by a magpie-style pied pattern tied to the Franconian regional tradition. Like other magpie pigeons, it is not related to the wild magpie; the name describes the contrast between colored and white feather areas. Body type is generally moderate and clean, with the show value depending on balance, feather condition, and the exact placement of the required markings.
For breeders, the main work is holding the pattern steady while keeping vigorous, fertile pigeons. Young birds may need to molt before their markings can be judged fairly, and small shifts in head, wing, saddle, or tail color can separate breeding stock from show birds. Housing is simple but should keep white areas clean: dry litter, regular baths, and perches that do not stain or fray feathers before exhibition.
