French Tumbler
The French tumbler is a domestic pigeon in the tumbler family, a group historically selected for agile flight and turning or rolling behavior. In modern fancy lofts, some French tumbler lines are kept mainly for exhibition type, color, and preservation, while others may retain more active flight. The name is broader than a single color pattern, so origin, standard, and family history matter when identifying birds.
Keepers should decide whether they want a flying tumbler or a show tumbler before buying. Flying families require gradual settling, safe release conditions, predator awareness, and selection for controlled action rather than dangerous rolling down. Exhibition birds still need exercise, bathing water, clean nest compartments, and breeding choices that protect vigor. A sound French tumbler should be lively and balanced, not merely labeled by an old performance name.
