German Double-Crested Trumpeter
The German Double-Crested Trumpeter is a German trumpeter pigeon with two crest features, usually a front crest and a rear shell or related head furnishing, combined with the resonant voice of the trumpeter group. It is one of the more ornamental German trumpeters, distinct from plain-headed calling breeds and from short-beaked toy pigeons. Color, foot feather, and exact crest shape depend on the standard followed.
A breeder has to manage both soundness and decoration. Crests should be full and correctly placed without blocking vision, trapping dirt, or making feeding difficult. If birds are muffed, dry litter and roomy nest bowls protect the foot feather. Trumpeter voice is best assessed in settled adult birds, so crowded or stressful housing hides an important trait. Pairing choices should keep call quality, fertility, feather structure, and parental care in balance.
