German Shield Owl Pigeon
The German Shield Owl pigeon combines owl-pigeon head and frill type with a colored shield pattern on the wings. It is a short-beaked, compact exhibition pigeon, not a cropper or flying breed. The shield marking means the wing coverts carry the main color while other areas follow the standard's rules, so the bird is judged both as an owl and as a carefully marked color pigeon.
Care should protect the two features that define it. The frill and face need to stay clean, and the wing shields should remain smooth, bright, and unbroken. Short beaks call for accessible feed and close nest checks, especially with young squabs. Breeding pairs are selected for head, beak, frill, shield boundary, vigor, and self-rearing ability. A German Shield Owl with excellent markings but poor feeding ability is a weak foundation.
