Hamburg Helmet
The Hamburg Helmet is a German tumbler breed from northern Germany, recognized by a helmet-like colored cap on a mostly lighter body. It developed around the beginning of the twentieth century from Hamburg and related tumbler stock, and good birds combine a lively stance, rounded head, short beak, pearl eye, and clean cap boundary. Depending on the variety, birds may be smooth-headed or crested.
Hamburg Helmets are kept as exhibition tumblers and, in some families, as active flyers. The helmet marking must be protected from muddy color or uneven borders, so breeders usually judge young birds carefully after the molt. Dry lofts, clean baths, grit, and space for exercise are enough for daily care. Shorter beaks call for attention during breeding, though many pairs rear their own young. Buyers should compare the cap from both sides of the head.
