Hungarian Buga Pigeon
The Hungarian Buga pigeon is a Hungarian domestic pigeon associated with the lowland regions of southern Hungary, including areas around Szeged, Nagykőrös, and Kecskemét in breed accounts. It is generally described as a utility and ornamental bird, with links to squab production and local farm lofts. The breed is separate from the larger Hungarian Giant, though practical meat-pigeon ancestry is part of the discussion around it.
Buga pigeons should be kept in roomy, dry lofts with dependable nest bowls and enough feed to support breeding without making adults sluggish. Breeders look for body strength, growth of young, fertility, calm temperament, and the outward type expected by Hungarian standards. Because the breed is not common internationally, imported stock should be documented and quarantined. Preservation-minded keepers should maintain more than one pair and avoid crossing simply to increase size.
