Hungarian Giant Pigeon
The Hungarian Giant pigeon is a large Hungarian utility and exhibition breed with a long history in the Great Hungarian Plain. It is built for substantial size, strong body, and, in many families, a furnished or crested head and neck impression, though the exact requirements should be checked against the standard in use. The breed was traditionally valued for squab production as well as show presence, which separates it from highflyers and small tumblers.
Large pigeons need roomy clean housing and careful weight management. Broad nest boxes, stable bowls, and secure footing help prevent leg strain and broken feathers. Breeders should select for size only when it comes with fertility, good legs, strong squab growth, and reliable feeding by the parents. Buyers should look for adult body condition and family productivity, not just a very large young bird before maturity.
