Hungarian Highflyer
The Hungarian Highflyer is part of Hungary's strong high-flying pigeon tradition, which includes Budapest, Szeged, and other regional forms. Highflyers are selected to rise high and circle for long periods over the home loft rather than to race from distant release points. They may be short-faced or more moderate depending on the strain, and some modern lines are kept mainly for exhibition color and type.
A keeper seeking real highflyer performance should buy from a loft that still flies and records its birds. Youngsters need slow settling, calm-weather releases, and protection from hawks and overtraining. Feed is managed to keep them light, fit, and motivated. Exhibition families still need exercise and health selection, but altitude and stamina fade if never tested. Breeders should balance return reliability, flight style, body soundness, and the recognized Hungarian type.
