Hungarian Short-Beak
The Hungarian Short-Beak is a short-faced Hungarian fancy pigeon, tied to the tumbler and highflyer side of the country's pigeon culture. Its defining trait is the shortened beak and compact head style, which gives a very different look from large utility pigeons or long-faced flying breeds. Depending on the standard, it may be judged for color, eye, carriage, and a refined small body as well as the face.
Short-beaked pigeons need more attentive breeding than moderate-faced birds. Adults should be able to eat comfortably, and squabs should be checked early to confirm they are being fed. Some fanciers use foster pairs when a line becomes too extreme, but breeding choices should favor health and self-rearing when possible. Clean feeders, small grains, grit, dry nest areas, and careful mate selection help keep the Hungarian Short-Beak practical rather than merely stylized.
