Koenigsberg Moorhead
The Koenigsberg Moorhead is an old German and East Prussian fancy pigeon named for Königsberg, the former East Prussian city now Kaliningrad. Moorhead refers to a dark or colored head marking contrasting with a lighter body, a pattern known in several European pigeon families. Within domestic pigeon taxonomy it is a variety of Columba livia kept for breed type, outline, and markings rather than meat production or racing.
Loft management resembles that of other ornamental tumblers and color pigeons: dry perches, clean nest boxes, regular baths, a balanced grain mix, and mineral grit. Selection centers on a crisp head pattern, sound body, good feather, and reliable breeding, with care not to lose vigor while refining markings. Because translations and standards for old Königsberg varieties can vary between clubs, buyers should compare birds to the standard they intend to use and ask about relatedness in rare lines.
