Komorn Tumbler
The Komorn tumbler, also called the Komorner or Komárno tumbler, is a historic fancy pigeon from the Danube town of Komorn, now associated with Komárom in Hungary and Komárno in Slovakia. Although it belongs to the tumbler family, the modern breed is best known as an exhibition pigeon. Many lines show a compact body, upright carriage, short beak, shell crest, and sharply defined magpie-like markings, with accepted colors depending on the standard used.
This breed rewards careful selection rather than hard flying. Crest shape, marking boundaries, body proportions, and vitality all need to be balanced in the breeding loft. The shorter beak means squabs should be checked to confirm they are being fed well, although many pairs rear normally. Dry, draft-free housing, regular bathing, and clean nest bowls help maintain the polished feathering expected in show birds. Buyers should look for healthy structure first, since extreme type is of little value if fertility or parent care is weak.
