Kosice Roller
The Kosice roller, or Košice roller, is a Slovak domestic pigeon breed named for Košice in eastern Slovakia. Rollers are closely related to tumblers but are selected for a more developed backward rolling action in flight, though individual strains vary and some modern birds are kept mainly for show. The breed belongs to the wider Central and Eastern European group of flying pigeons descended from Columba livia, usually managed in small teams rather than as utility birds.
Performance lofts focus on safe kit training, steady trapping, and feed control that keeps birds fit without weakening them. A good roller should return to normal flight cleanly after a roll; birds that roll too deep or lose control can be injured or lost. Keepers avoid flying in strong wind, heavy rain, or high predator pressure, and young birds need gradual experience. Anyone buying Kosice rollers should ask whether the family is actively flown, how performance is selected, and whether the birds also meet the show type expected in that line.
