Lille Pouter
A northern French fancy pigeon associated with Lille and French Flanders, the Lille pouter is sometimes encountered under French names such as Boulant Lillois. It belongs to the pouter or cropper group of domestic pigeons, all descended from the rock dove, Columba livia. Its identity is built around an inflated crop, upright carriage, and the regional outline preferred by pouter fanciers, with recognized colors and markings varying by club standard.
Kept mainly for exhibition and preservation breeding, the Lille pouter needs a loft that lets birds move and display without crowding. Pouter breeders watch crop inflation, balance, fertility, and temperament, because an impressive globe is only useful if the bird can feed, court, and rear young reliably. Clean nest bowls, steady feeding, and low-stress handling help protect the crop and keep birds in show condition.
