Lower Bavarian Cropper
The Lower Bavarian cropper is a German domestic pigeon breed from Lower Bavaria, classed with croppers and pouters. In German pigeon culture these birds are valued for the inflated crop, lively stance, and regional type that distinguish them from other Bavarian and European croppers. Like all domestic pigeons, it traces back to Columba livia, but its shape and behavior have been refined for the show loft rather than for homing or utility production.
Cropper housing should give birds room to stand, court, and display without constant contact with wire or neighboring males. Breeding choices usually focus on crop shape, balance, leg and body proportions, color, and willingness to rear young. Keepers pay close attention to digestion and water access, because birds with exaggerated crops still need to feed cleanly and maintain weight through breeding and exhibition seasons.
