Lucerne Copper Collar
Among the Swiss Lucerne color pigeons, the Lucerne Copper Collar is the variety named for a warm copper collar or neck sheen that sets off the body color in the exhibition standard. It was developed around the canton of Lucerne and belongs to the domestic rock pigeon, Columba livia, rather than to a separate wild species. Fanciers keep it for precise color, feather finish, and type rather than for racing or utility production.
In the loft, Lucerne Copper Collars are managed much like other Swiss fancy pigeons, with dry housing, orderly perches, and regular observation through the molt. Breeding pairs are chosen carefully because the copper collar must be strong but controlled, and body color can be spoiled by uneven feathering or poor condition. Show preparation centers on health, bloom, and keeping the marked neck area clean and unbroken.
