Lucerne Gold Collar
The Lucerne Gold Collar is a Swiss exhibition pigeon in the Lucerne color-pigeon family. Its defining feature is the golden or yellow-gold collar effect around the neck, combined with the body color and type required by the standard. The breed developed from the domestic rock pigeon, Columba livia, through regional selection by Swiss fanciers, and it is normally discussed alongside the Lucerne Copper Collar, Self, and Elmer varieties.
Gold Collars reward patient color breeding because the neck color must be vivid without muddying the rest of the plumage. Daily care is straightforward in a dry, weather-tight loft with access to bathing water and a balanced pigeon grain mix. Grit, minerals, and parasite checks during the molt help preserve feather quality. Breeding for exhibition should not sacrifice vigor, since small Swiss color-pigeon populations depend on fertile pairs that rear their own squabs.
