Lusatian Tumbler
From Lusatia, the historic region spanning eastern Germany and western Poland, the Lusatian tumbler is a regional European pigeon also encountered in German contexts as a Lausitzer tumbler or Lausitzer Purzler. It belongs to the domestic rock pigeon species and to the old tumbler group, birds once valued for aerial somersaulting and lively loft behavior. Modern lines may be kept more for exhibition than for routine tumbling, but the breed's identity still rests on an active, compact type, clean feathering, and the character of a small working tumbler rather than a heavy ornamental pigeon.
For keepers, the main question is whether a line is maintained for flying, showing, or both. Flying families need patient settling, safe release conditions, and selection for birds that return promptly and recover well after rolling. Exhibition breeders focus more closely on head shape, carriage, color, and feather finish, while still needing parents that rear reliably. A dry loft with room for exercise suits the breed; cramped, stale housing quickly spoils feather quality. Because regional standards differ, buyers should compare birds with the standard used by the club they plan to show under.
