Majorcan Bort Runt
In pigeon terminology, the Majorcan Bort runt is not a small or weak bird: runt means a heavy, broad domestic pigeon type. The breed is associated with Mallorca in the Balearic Islands, where local utility pigeons were kept for substance, steady temperament, and squab production as well as appearance. Bort is a local or fancier term, and the strain is less uniformly documented outside Spain than many international show breeds, so descriptions may differ between Catalan, Spanish, and translated sources.
Small flocks are usually kept for heritage breeding, exhibition, or utility use rather than long-distance flight. Roomy housing matters because heavy pigeons need broad perches, clean nest bowls, and easy access to feed and water without crowding. Breeders comparing stock should ask which standard is being followed, since names translated as Majorcan, Mallorcan, giant, bort, or runt may be used differently in different circles.
