Majorcan Esbart Roller
A Mallorcan performance pigeon, the Majorcan Esbart roller was developed for group flying on the Balearic island of Mallorca. Esbart is commonly linked with flock or kit work, and roller refers to the controlled tumbling action expected from capable birds. It is a descendant of the domestic rock pigeon, but selection has emphasized agility, responsiveness to the home loft, and coordinated flying rather than size or table qualities.
Keepers treat these birds as a performance strain. Youngsters are settled carefully, flown in suitable weather, and trained in small kits so that roll quality and homing reliability can be judged. Loft security is important because roller pigeons are exposed to hawks and losses during training. Breeding decisions should balance style with safety; excessively deep or unstable rolling can put birds at risk, even when it looks dramatic.
