Makó Highflyer
The Makó highflyer, also written Mako highflier, is a Hungarian flying pigeon associated with the town of Makó in southeastern Hungary. It belongs to the highflyer tradition, in which lofts are selected for height, endurance, orientation, and group discipline rather than racing speed. Type can vary between performance and show families, but the breed is usually described as an active, medium-sized pigeon with alert carriage and good wing use.
These pigeons suit keepers who can fly birds regularly and evaluate them honestly. They need a safe, weatherproof loft, a consistent feeding routine, and gradual training so young birds learn the home before being asked to climb. In breeding, experienced fanciers avoid pairing only for color; the useful qualities are strong constitution, reliable return, and the ability to stay high without scattering. Exhibition birds may not show the same flight capacity as older working lines.
