Markish Magpie Tumbler
The Markish magpie tumbler is a German tumbler pigeon associated with the Mark Brandenburg region and often linked to the name Märkischer Elstertümmler in continental lists. It is a domestic rock pigeon, Columba livia, shaped by fanciers for a clean magpie pattern, alert carriage, and the compact build expected of a tumbler. The magpie description refers to a contrasting pied arrangement rather than to the bird's behavior; body areas are sharply divided between white and colored feathering, with accepted colors varying by standard.
Older tumbler breeds were flown for rolling and kit performance, but many Markish magpie tumblers are now kept mainly for exhibition and preservation. A practical loft should still let them fly and exercise, since tight feather condition and muscle tone affect both show appearance and fertility. Breeding requires attention to the magpie boundary lines as well as basic health. When comparing birds, note which standard the breeder follows, because spelling, color names, and small details can vary between German and international clubs.
