Moroncelo Cropper
The Moroncelo cropper, or buchón moroncelo, is a Spanish cropper pigeon associated with Andalusia and commonly linked to Morón de la Frontera in Seville province. It is part of the old Spanish pouter tradition, where birds were bred for an inflated crop, proud stance, and active courting behavior around the loft. Compared with heavy show-only croppers, the Moroncelo is generally understood as a lively regional type, valued for expression and handling as much as for outline.
Practical management depends on whether a line is still flown or kept mainly for exhibition. Flying birds need careful training, settled territory, and protection from raptors, while show birds are selected more closely for crop shape, head, posture, and feather condition. Breeders should avoid exaggeration that interferes with feeding or mating. Outside Spain, names can be translated inconsistently, so photographs, club references, and the breeder's account of the strain are important when evaluating a Moroncelo purchase.
