Moulter
The Moulter is a thinly documented domestic pigeon breed name, and it is easy to confuse with the ordinary term for any pigeon going through its annual moult. In breed lists it refers to a pigeon variety or strain derived from Columba livia, not to the temporary condition of losing and replacing feathers. Because widely used modern standards are hard to find, the name should be interpreted through local club usage, strain history, and the physical type maintained by the breeder.
Anyone acquiring birds under the Moulter name should first confirm that the seller is describing a breed, not simply birds in heavy feather change or poor condition. Normal fancy-pigeon housing is appropriate: a dry, well-ventilated loft, clean perches, grit, and calm handling. During the actual moult, all pigeons benefit from steady nutrition and reduced stress, so feather quality should be assessed after regrowth. Written pair records are especially helpful for obscure strains where identity can be lost quickly.
