Norwegian Tumbler
The Norwegian tumbler is a Scandinavian domestic pigeon breed developed in Norway from the broad tumbler family of Columba livia. It is generally kept as a fancy and exhibition pigeon today, although its ancestry lies in birds that could perform rolling or tumbling movements in flight. The breed is known as a compact, lively tumbler type, with color varieties governed by the standard used by Nordic and European clubs.
Loft management is straightforward for experienced pigeon keepers: dry, draft-free housing, regular bath water, grit, and balanced grain keep the plumage and body condition suitable for showing. If birds are flown, short controlled sessions are safer than letting valuable show stock range unattended. Breeding programs should prioritize correct type and temperament along with fertility, since small national breeds can suffer when too few related birds are used.
