Old Dutch Capuchine
Old Dutch Capuchine is one of the better-known Dutch fancy pigeons, noted for the dramatic hood, mane, and neck feathering that frame the head. Its name recalls the capuchin-like collar effect rather than any working purpose. The breed has a compact, ornamental presence, and good birds look tidy and composed even with the heavy feather structure around the head and neck.
Keeping Old Dutch Capuchines means managing feathers as carefully as body type. Birds need clean housing, bathing access, and perches that do not crush the hood or soil the neck feathering. Breeders select for a full but orderly hood, clear color placement, a balanced body, and birds that can see, feed, and rear normally. Exhibition preparation often includes careful conditioning rather than dramatic trimming or reshaping.
