Old Dutch Turbit
Old Dutch Turbit is a Dutch member of the turbit and owl-frill family, where a short face, rounded head impression, and breast frill are central features. Turbits are not utility pigeons; they are small ornamental birds shaped by centuries of selection for expression, compactness, and the decorative frill running down the front. The Old Dutch name helps separate this traditional form from later or more specialized frill breeds.
Care is similar to other short-faced frill pigeons. Breeders need to keep beak length, fertility, and feeding ability in mind while selecting for the head, frill, and clean body type. Young birds may need close observation at weaning, and breeding pairs should be chosen for vigor as well as show points. Clean bowls, dry litter, and calm handling help protect the frill and keep the bird looking correct.
