Old German Moor-Head
The Old German Moor-head is a German fancy pigeon recognized for its old color-breed character and the dark-headed pattern behind its name. It belongs to the domestic pigeon, Columba livia, but has been shaped by fanciers for a clean contrast between a colored head or hood and a largely pale body. Standards can vary by country and club, yet the main impression is a neat, balanced bird in which the head marking is crisp, the body is not coarse, and common fancy-pigeon colors may appear through established lines.
Because the breed is judged heavily on pattern, breeding takes patience and selection decisions are often about misplaced color as much as structure. Loft care is straightforward pigeon husbandry: dry flooring, fresh bathing water, clean nest bowls, grit, and protection from drafts and rodents. It helps to see related birds before buying, since a single well-marked adult may not show how consistently a family produces the required head color. The best stock combines tidy markings with normal fertility, strong feeding of squabs, and a steady temperament in the hand.
