Old Oriental Owl
The Old Oriental Owl is a classic short-faced frill pigeon connected with the broader Oriental Owl and Oriental Frill traditions. It has a rounded head, short beak, breast frill, and compact body, with varieties that may be plain, shield-marked, or more elaborately patterned depending on the standard. The old-style name helps separate it from more extreme modern show strains and from loosely labeled owl pigeons.
In captivity this breed rewards careful, moderate breeding. Extremely short-faced owl pigeons can struggle to feed squabs, so keepers may use reliable foster parents or choose lines with better natural rearing. Feathered feet and frills stay cleaner on dry floors with regular bathing water and perches that do not crowd the birds. Clarify whether the birds are old-style Oriental Owls, classic Oriental Frills, or modern show strains, because names overlap in hobby use and expectations for markings, beak length, and breeding management can differ.
