Old Style English Flying Saddle Tumbler
The Old Style English Flying Saddle Tumbler is a British flying tumbler type kept for the older working look of the English tumbler family. Like all domestic pigeons it descends from Columba livia, but its appeal is tied to kit flying, homing to the loft, and the saddle marking: a colored area over the back and wing shield on a mostly contrasting bird. It is generally plainer and more athletic than heavily developed exhibition tumblers, with selection aimed at balance, wing strength, alertness, and the ability to fly as a team.
These pigeons are managed by routine more than ornament. Young birds are settled carefully, then flown in short, controlled sessions before being asked for higher or longer work. Feeding is adjusted to keep them keen without making them weak, and free flying has to account for weather, wires, and raptors. Breeders who care about the old style keep performance and type together, avoiding birds that only carry the saddle pattern but lack flying ability. A buyer should ask whether a family is currently flown or maintained mainly for color.
