Oriental Turbit
The Oriental Turbit is a fancy pigeon in the turbit, owl, and frill family, with roots often linked to Middle Eastern or eastern Mediterranean pigeon keeping. It is a compact, short-billed domestic pigeon with a rounded head, a neat breast frill, and often a crested, ornamental outline depending on the standard followed. The name is easily confused with Oriental frills and with Western turbits, but fanciers use it for a related type with its own balance of head, beak, shield marking, and carriage.
Most Oriental Turbits are kept for exhibition and breeding rather than for distance flight. Short-faced birds need nest checks during hatching and early feeding, especially in lines with very small beaks. Clean nest bowls, dry litter, and careful handling help protect the frill and head feathering. Because standards and naming can vary by country, buyers should compare birds to the club standard used by the breeder and avoid selecting only for extreme head features if the goal is healthy, reliable breeding pairs.
